Rosie from The Newt Conservation Partnership took DNA samples from the pond we restored with their help last summer. We are hoping to attract Great Crested Newts.
In the meantime, Rosie found common newt eggs and a rare plant; the Water-violet, which is a member of the primrose family. This red list plant is an indicator that the pond is free of pollution and is very healthy.
We hope to work with The Newt Conservation Partnership again later this year to dig out new ponds in the valley below Home Farm.
