This area was recently ‘thinned’, meaning that we selected and cut down the poorer trees in the woodland creating space for remaining standing trees to grow bigger.

Without this intervention oak trees would grow tall and spindly and have little timber value.

More light now reaches the forest floor and improves wildflower habitat supporting insects, butterflies, bees, and small mammals.
