This fence has been erected to protect our young plantation from browsing by deer.

We have three deer species present – Roe, Fallow and Muntjac. Whilst fencing is one method for tree protection, we also must cull deer as they have no natural predators and their numbers in West Sussex increase year on year.

We also protect our trees from grey squirrels which love to strip the bark off our native broadleaves, leading to dangerous weakening of branches and trunks and results in the death of trees.

We dream that the number of greys reduces that our beloved native red squirrel can return to the south of England!
